School Closed for Tobogganing!

Bristol Parenting Cafe - Snow January 2013

Z and E's school was the last one to announce they were closed yesterday, when Bristol awoke to a deep blanket of snow. We sat listening to radio broadcasts of an ever longer list of school closures.  Theirs wasn't on the list.  So we dressed them in their uniform, popped them on the sledge and headed for school.  When we got there they were turning everyone away. At the last minute they had decided to close.  Annoying for some but a giant WHOOP! from us.  J and I both took the day off work and headed to the Downs for snowmanpig(!) making.

We spent the whole afternoon tobogganing.  I love unusual weather in Britain.  It makes everyone behave differently and there were so many smiles from strangers as we pulled our three around Bristol on their sledges.

  2. That is indeed a lovely photograph. I know what you mean about how the weather affects people, it's as though barriers are briefly down and everyone is more friendly. Snow days are the best, and your story of listening to the radio for lists of school closures reminded me of my own childhood. My kids' school sends a text to all parents if there is a closure and it's so useful, but perhaps not the stuff of memories!

    1. Thank you Gillian. It did feel a bit old-school waiting for the local news - felt like we should have been listening to an old fashioned wireless!
