Apple Harvest

Apple orchards were once widespread throughout Britain but almost two-thirds have been lost since the sixties. Fortunately, there is renewed interest in preserving traditional orchards and celebrating the diversity of fruit they produce. They are peaceful and beautiful places to visit and we've just returned from one with a bag of windfall apples and plums. To read more about British apple-growing or to find an orchard to visit take a look at the website of England in Particular, a charity that has been working to save traditional orchards and that also invented Apple Day on October 21st.
